September Newsletter: MTD Changes, Registered Office and Self Assessment

Hello and welcome to the latest newsletter from PA Accounting.

As always, September has been a busy month in the office. The MTD deadline for the second quarter is almost upon us, so we have been busy ensuring your records are up to date. Month end brings payroll to be run, and we have a large volume of year ends to start for our limited company clients. As always, we appreciate your continued support and custom.

Changes to MTD

As you are aware, MTD is here to stay — but there are some changes afoot for the coming tax year of 2027–2028.

HMRC will be auto-enrolling all those who have filed a 2025–2026 Self Assessment tax return. Unlike last year, where you had to enrol yourself or ask us to do it on your behalf, HMRC will now use their automated enrolment programme to determine those who will be eligible for the new filings in 2027.

This means that in the coming weeks and months you will receive a letter from HMRC to inform you of this.

If you are a current non-MTD client, we will also be notifying you and giving you the options to sign up to our MTD service. If you have any questions, do not hesitate to get in touch.

Registered Office Options — Keep Your Home Address Private

If you run a limited company, you don't necessarily need to use your home address as your company's registered office address.

We offer a Registered Office Address Service, allowing you to use our accountancy firm's address for your company's registered address. Our service includes:

  • Postal screening — we receive and screen your company correspondence.
  • Mail redirection — important post can then be forwarded to your home or another address of your choice.
  • Greater privacy — keep your personal home address separate from your company's public records.

It's a simple, convenient way to manage your company correspondence while adding an extra layer of privacy and professionalism.

Self Assessments — Why Wait Until January?

There's no need to leave your Self Assessment until the last minute. With the 2025/26 tax year now complete, now is a great time to get your return prepared and submitted.

Filing early means you'll know exactly where you stand with HMRC, giving you plenty of time to plan for any tax payment that may be due. And if you've overpaid tax and are entitled to a refund, getting your return filed sooner could mean getting that money back sooner too.

Even better, filing early doesn't mean paying early — your 2025/26 Self Assessment tax is still generally due by 31 January 2027. But knowing your liability in advance gives you time to budget and avoid any nasty surprises.

At PA Accounting Ltd, we can take care of the whole process for you — from preparing your accounts and identifying allowable expenses and tax reliefs, through to submitting your return and explaining exactly what you owe or are due back.

Don't leave it until January. Get ahead, get organised and get your Self Assessment sorted.

We Have Something for You

The next time you pop by to say hello, we have some branded folders ready and waiting for you to fill with your monthly paperwork. Bring it back full and we will give you another one — it makes it easier to keep all your receipts in one place.

As always, thank you for your continued support and custom. Keep your eyes out for the Wemian and our Facebook page for regular updates, and remember — if you know someone who needs our services, just send them our details.

See you next month.
